SOMEWHERE, ONCE

New Orleans, LA. October 10 – November 14, 2026

Artist talk & reception: Saturday, Oct. 10th, 5 - 7 PM

Simon Quadrat + Laura Ortiz Vega

Somewhere, Once brings together Simon Quadrat and Laura Ortiz Vega, two artists whose work begins in vastly different home towns but shares an interest in what happens to people, places, and images as they pass through memory.

Working from opposite sides of the Atlantic and through distinctly different materials, both artists allow the familiar to become less certain. Places shift, details disappear or take on new weight, and the line between something remembered and something imagined becomes difficult to locate.

Moving between personal and collective memory, the exhibition considers how recollections are shaped not only by what we experience ourselves, but by the stories, images, and histories passed between people and across generations. In that exchange, memories accumulate, fragment, and change, in turn altering our sense of place, time, person, or even oneself.

Placed in conversation, Quadrat and Ortiz Vega leave these boundaries deliberately unresolved, inviting viewers to consider what feels familiar, distant, inherited, or perhaps only half-remembered.
