Laura Ortiz Vega
Laura Ortiz Vega (b. 1975, Mexico City) is a Mexican artist whose work brings together textile traditions, contemporary image-making, and an exacting approach to material. Her early fascination with handcraft and traditional making led her to study industrial design at the Universidad Iberoamericana, where she began developing the material language that would come to define her practice. Working primarily with embroidery thread embedded by hand into wax, she builds richly textured surfaces that blur the boundaries between painting, textile, and object.
Born in Mexico City, Ortiz Vega studied Industrial Design at Universidad Iberoamericana and later co-founded Antena Estudio. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including at ZONAMACO, the London Art Fair, and Art Toronto, with solo exhibitions in New York and at the Museum of Popular Art in Mexico City. Her work is held in the West Collection in Pennsylvania.
